Greetings one and all,

April is here and it is time again for our Pub Crawl. An event that is something you definetly do not want to miss. We will be leaving Thursday April 21st around 6:00pm for Portland. There we will stay the night and then get a good start on to Seattle the next morning. We will return Sunday the 24th.

There is still room on the bus. The more people we can get on the bus (up to 20) the cheaper it will be for each of us. To get your name on the bus list, call Russ at 461-1548. There will be more information sent out in club emails as it comes along.

Next meeting:

From Rod Surcamp;

Belgian/French style, club homebrew day, Saturday April 9th. Start mashing by 9:00AM
People could start setting up about 8:00AM at  Rod and Aashild's home at 2890 Martinique Ave. Eugene
338-4600 call for any special needs. I also have active yeast cultured from
bottles of Orval if anyone would like to use some, let me know.

From Chip and Kristina;

The business idea is finally happening. Kristina and I have been working many hours down at the location for the past four weeks. As for an opening date we are shooting for the 15-20th of April.  But there is much work to be done.

Basically we are going to have 650 different beers in the bottle, 10 beers on draft, all served in its proper glassware. Wine by the bottle or glass, and a small food menu.  Everthing is available for in-house consumption or to go.  It should be much fun, and we look forward to hosting you and the club in our new venture.

Cheers,
Chip

Here is a lil' somethin' from Denny about this years Big Brew coming up May 7th:

Big Brew this year is Sat. May 7 and Denny will once again be hosting a Big Brew site.  The AHA has chosen Denny's Rye IPA recipe as one of the 2 official Big Brew recipes this year. The other recipe is "Rocket" Rod
Formanek's "Positively Porter".  Both recipes are available at http://www.beertown.org/events/bigbrew/recipes.html .  Both recipes are figured for approximately 80% system efficiency, so if you're going to brew one of them, be sure to adjust it for your system.  Brewing setup will
start at 9 AM, and the worldwide toast is set for 10 AM.  Brewing space is limited, so if you intend to brew, contact Denny at 998.8580 or email denny@projectoneaudio.com to reserve a space.  even if you're not brewing, come on out, bring food and beer, and enjoy the festivities!

Also, it's time again for the Heart of the Valley Homebrew competition and festival. Here's the info I have on that:

The Heart of the Valley Homebrewers are proud to announce the 23rd Annual Oregon Homebrew and Microbrew Festival.  For complete information visit www.hotv.org  The May 21st festival is a homebrew

The homebrewing festival is an AHA/BJCP sanctioned event and a pre-qualifying event for the Master Championship of Amateur Brewers (MCAB) http://hbd.org/mcab/index.html  Best of show is a dual tap

Cornelius kegerator complete with CO 2 and regulator.  Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in 28 categories.  We are also pleased to announce that the 28 categories are sponsored by businesses in the brewing industry.  1st place (varies), 2nd place winners are sponsored by White Labs Yeast, www.whitelabs.com and 3rd place winners are sponsored by Corvallis Brewing Supply www.brewbeer.cc Deadline for entries is May 7 and the cost is $6.00 per entry.

And Now a Word from President Robin Chitwood:

March 27, 2005

In only about three weeks we’ll be heading up to Seattle for our annual pub-crawl. E-mails and phone calls have been going out to members to determine who’s on board this time. It takes a lot of planning and coordination to put one of these events together so we need commitment from people as early as possible. I can’t think of a better way to take a mini-vacation than a three-day pub-crawl. Seattle is loaded with good microbreweries like Elysian, Pike Pub and Brewery, Maritime Pacific, Hale’s Ales and many more. If you’ve been on one of these you know we do a good pub-crawl. Russ’s last e-mail outlined the main details. But we need to make some decisions soon so if you haven’t already, please give Russ a call at 461-1548.

I’m not sure if this is a record or not but it sure merits some recognition. At the club brew at Matt’s on March 12th Bill Miranda pulled off a 30-gallon solo mega-brew. He brewed three different IPAs and it came off without a hitch. Remarkable!

We have another club brew coming up on April 9th. This time it’s at Rod Surcamp’s and we’ll be brewing Belgian and French Ales for the AHA club only competition. That contest is sponsored by Hop Barley and the Alers of Boulder, Colorado and will be held on June 5th. Due dates for individual club entries have not been determined. Rod’s place is ideal for brewing with lots of covered space and a big driveway. It’s at 2890 Martinique Ave. Eugene. 338-4600. If you’re coming from town, go north on Coburg Road to Crescent, turn right, go to Grand Cayman, turn left. Turn right at Martinique (it’s toward the end of the street),turn right at the second driveway,(long driveway). Rod’s house is on the left.

Be sure to catch the Big Brew at Denny Conn’s on May 7th. It’s a great chance to get out of town and brew in this peaceful setting along the Long Tom River. The official Big Brew recipe this year is Rye IPA. Yes, that’s Denny’s own (now famous) Rye IPA. . The recipe that was brewed at Rogue Ales and at Olfabrikken in Denmark during 2004. Now it will be brewed all over the country on Big Brew Day. There may be a tsunami of Rye IPA! If you want to brew that day be sure to give Denny a call. Brew space is limited

I’m looking for volunteers to do tear down and clean up at the Sasquatch Brew fest on June 4th. There are usually plenty of volunteers for pouring beer but they are always short-handed for teardown because it has to happen fast. Teardown usually starts at about 9:30pm. There will be a party to thank volunteers. This is where our club can make a difference. If you can help give me a call at 342-2397 or send me an e-mail at RobinChitwood@msn.com. Cheers,RC
