Next Meetings:
Summer BBQ on July 5, 6, & 7th at the Clark Creek Organizational
Campground (directions are on page 2 at a map is on page 3). Campground
opens at 2PM on Friday the 5th. Bring Beer, friends and whatever
you will need to be self-sufficient in the woods for the weekend.
Saturday night we will have a pot-luck so bring a dish to share if you're
staying that night. Shelter is available for those without tents
and a large wood-fired cooking surface is there to warm hot dishes.
There will be games for everyone and a raffle will be held to help defray
costs. Contact Karen French, 342-2397, if you can donate raffle articles.
Other July events coming up: Kolsch style night at Robin & Karen's,
2656 Potter, at 6:30 PM on July 20th. The meeting is a potluck, so
bring some food and a homebrewed or commercial Kolsch. If you brewed
a Kolsch please bring your recipe, so we can compare and discuss
the style.
One more event for July is the Oregon Brewer's Festival in Portland
on July 26th, 27th and 28th. This is one of the biggest and best
festivals in the country. Usually about 75 beers from all over the
U.S.. If you plan to go Friday (gates open around 11AM) is the best
day for avoiding large crowds and that is when the majority of club members
go, so book your hotel room now!.
And Now a Word from President Robin Chitwood:
Lets give a big hand to Mark And Lisa Dillon for hosting another great River Road Cruise-In party. Beer was plentiful and good and it was good to see some new faces.
There was a good turn-out for the annual Eugene Pub Crawl. Many thanks to Teri Fahrendorf and Steelhead Brewery for their hospitality. The Anniversary Ale was tasty.
Thanks to Chip Hardy for hosting us at West Brothers. Chip brought out samples of two yet to be released specialties. The hoppy EFB was worthy of a toast to Glen Falconer. The Belgian Quadruple is a potent spicy fluid of immense proportion. Watch for these at West Brothers. The last act played out at the Wild Duck with some of our favorite beers and some entertaining stories by Chris Studach.
The summer barbecue and camp-out is about three weeks away. The camp grounds will open at 2pm on Friday the 5th. Please contact Chuck Link or Karen French if you have something to donate for the raffle.
For those of us who had made advanced payments for the San Francisco trip which was cancelled, Russ sent out an e-mail stating the disposition of those funds. Keven Hornbuckle agreed to carry our deposit as a credit toward a future trip. Keven is booked pretty much through the summer so a fall weekend trip might be more likely. Some of the suggestions I have heard so far have been: Northern California, Ashland or a trip to Full Sail Brewery in Hood River finishing up at Edgefield. Cheers RC
And Now a Word from President Kent McDonald:
Hey All, I want to welcome all the new CBS members--- Robert and Debbie Davis, Jerry and Lori Liudahl, and Toby and Bess Day. It's great to have all of you join us. We are now up to 11 new members for 2002!! Let's keep that drive alive!!
With all the new members, Janie is reorganizing the address list. If there is anything you want to change on your information please let her know ASAP.
Congratulations go out to Chip Hardy for being made Head Brewer at West Bros. Kudos Chip! Also thanks to Chip for organizing the pub crawl--and for keeping us moving when we got a "little" bleary. And those special tastes from the brewery archives were spectacular.
Thanks also to Teri Fahrendorf for starting us off right at Steelhead by picking our entire tab! Very Cool!
As you all know the Hop Ride is coming up in August. So get out there and put in some miles. I am up to 5 miles---in 4 days that is!!.
On a somber note--Steve Van Rossen's hip surgery was cancelled by the F!!!ing FDA! So let's all send him our good thoughts and support. Hang in there Steve!
The next meeting is the club BBQ/CAMPOUT, where we will be crowning a new Hop Queen. We must say good bye to the first (and only) Hop Queen>> Jannette Dahne. She has reigned with Beauty, Belches and Grace for two great years! Thanks Janette.. So CBS members lets make the rest of this year even better than first half.
