Hi All,

Excuse the delayed release of this month’s newsletter. There were a few distractions over the past month. With that said, I hope everyone had a great holiday season.

A big thanks, and lifting of our glass to Rod and Aashild Surcamp for putting on this years Christmas party. It was good to see everyone that attended and even better to see all the great homebrews and wonderful dishes that were there. It was also the unveiling of the club jockey box. With six glorious taps, labels, and it was all put together by Robin C. It will definitely be a treat to look forward to at future club events.

Another year end favorite was the “old beer” night.  A great way to help with the inventory problem we seem to run into on occasion. Many great, and not so great, vintage brews were sampled by everyone willing. The oldest being, if I recall correctly, was from 1987. Thanks Russ for putting that on.

Thanks to everyone for another great year in the Cascade Brewers Society. Let’s make 2006 even better.  Cheers & Beers everyone.

And Now a Word from President Robin Chitwood:

January 3, 2006

’05 was a very good year for Cascade Brewers Society. Our membership continues to grow and a larger percentage of that membership has been brewing beer regularly. Our events calendar was very full last year with a mix of social and technical events to choose from. We enjoyed brewing together several times during the year and who can forget the Seattle pub-crawl and the “garage-crawl” here in Eugene?

On the 30th of January at 6:30 pm the club will meet in the basement of Rogue Brewery to announce new officers, discuss business and set some calendar dates for the upcoming year. At this meeting the treasurer will collect dues and make a report on club finances. This meeting offers club members a chance to express ideas, host a meeting or plan an event.

Despite having jobs to go to, businesses to run and kids to look after, CBS members have always taken time to promote enthusiasm for brewing by planning and hosting events in their homes. They have hosted summer barbeques, Christmas and Halloween parties and a variety of other seasonal social events. There have been style nights, which showcase specific beer styles for sampling. There have been club brews and technical meetings in garages and carports. Members have planned weekend pub-crawls in other cities (complete with bus transportation) and even trips to Europe. The rule is simple: if it’s your idea, you carry the ball. You take charge of the event and provide a place to have it. If your place is too small for a big party, a technical meeting might work best. Or create a unique home brewing event. It all adds up to a lot of fun and it just takes a little commitment from each member to keep up the momentum. Please come to the January meeting and consider how you can participate. Your involvement is the vitality of the club. See you on the 30th. Cheers, RC

For all those that brew, I still have a large number of yeast slants to pick from. This hasn’t really been put to use, and I can only brew so much at a time. If you are at all interested in getting a slant, let me know. I’m also more than happy to answer any questions about stepping up a slant to a pitchable amount of yeast. It’s not that hard, really.

Please feel free to call or email me if you are in need of a yeast slant. I culture them in slants and the process to step them up into pitchable amounts of yeast is very simple. I am more than willing to help with any questions you may have on the subject. Hm: 688-8979 email: insubordin8n@gmail.com
